Hi friends! I was tagged to do this super fun post by Cherry @ Letters To The Lost, and I’m excited to do it!
Rules:
- Fill out each of the prompts with your answer. Each character/book you choose has to be one you read in 2020.
- Tag as many or few people as you want, but preferably somewhere around 10.
- Have fun and happy new year!!
Best Villain
The Doyle family is pure evil. Well, most of them anyways. The thing that makes this family so terrifying is that their evilness is primarily based around the idea of white supremacy and the exploitation of Mexicans. So much of that can be found in our world today, and I think Silvia Moreno-Garcia did such an excellent job writing horrible people that are also believable.
Best Main Character
Jude is truly a queen. She’s good with words, wits, plotting, and a sword. We stan an apologetically Slytherin main character.
Best Side Character
Let’s not talk about he way I almost picked Mr. Watanbe from Summer Bird Blue for this category. But seriously, Thomas Cresswell saved this series for me. His witty banter and surprisingly romantic actions outshone Audrey Rose’s reckless stupidity so yay Thomas!
A Character That You’re Glad You Aren’t
A reread counts…right? Well, I’m doing it anyways. I respect Laia of Serra so very much but never in a million years would I want to experience what she goes through. Losing so much family, going through physical pain and unimaginable heartbreak…no thank you. But I will give her a hug because she deserves it.
A setting (preferably not in our world) that you wouldn’t mind settling down in
Wonderland is probably a controversial choice. BUT I love the whimsy of it! The unpredictability of it! I love how it’s pure nonsense because yes. No real answer here, just yes.
A setting you would never want to live in
The Moors suck. Yes, I know, that was extremely eloquent language. I’m really quite good at this. Anyways, I’m not a big fan of 99% of the creatures living in that desolate wasteland, so I don’t think we’d be a good match. Not like Wonderland and I.
An indie or underhyped book that everyone would like it they just tried it
I talk about The Beast Player a LOT. But it truly is just a fantastic little gem! It’s definitely not for everyone, but for those who it is for, they truly would probably love it. It’s thoughtful, reflective, and lovely. It’s a quiet fantasy story that touches your heart and stays there. Okay okay, I’ll shut up now.
A book that kept you laughing and having a good time
Yeah uh, the pool of contenders for this category was rather small. But Super Fake Love Song was genuinely a fun time! I laughed out loud a few times, cringed from second-hand embarrassment, and smiled at all the great character moments that make up this book.
Most Unforgettable
The Gilded Wolves might not have the most unforgettable story, but oh, the characters. Severin, Laila, Enrique, Zofia, Tristan, Hypnos…I LOVE THEM ALL SO MUCH AHHH. Ahem. Clearly, I’m not ready for the final book to be released.
Most Unique
In a genre that more or less can feel repetitive the more of it you read, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle was a breath of fresh air. I like to describe it as Groundhog Day meets Knives Out. I mean, the concept of someone stuck in a seven day loop trying to solve a mystery while spending each day in a different person’s body is really very unique.
That’s it! I tag anyone who wants to do this, since I’m writing this so last minute!

How have I still not read Queen Of Nothing 🙈 I agree, from the previous books, that Jude is incredible though. I majorly hope to get Gilded Wolves & Evelyn Hardcastle read this year too. Especially know that it’s been compared to Knives Out 😍
I can say that I 100% agree with the Doyle family being horrific villains though. That book was seriously disturbing but I couldn’t put it down.

YES WE STAN JUDE 200%. And aww Laia, she is such an incredible character with so much growth but same here, I wouldn’t want to be in her place for all the suffering she goes through! And yes all the hugs in the world should go to her now. Lovely post, Kaya! 💖
