My Hero Academia Season 1 Review! // okay okay…i’m really late to this party

Hi friends! I have an anime review to share with you! Well…of season one.

welcome to my world: where i’m late to everything

but no matter because we’re here now!

WARNING: MY REVIEW IS SPOILER-FREE BUT SEVERAL SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST FEW EPISODES IN THIS DESCRIPTION. You can skip it if you want, my review is spoiler-free.

In a world where those with powers are known as “Quirks,” Izuku Midoriya has aspirations to one day become a hero but there’s a catch — he isn’t a Quirk. After a tragic accident involving his friend Katuski Bakugo; Midoriya is the only one to have stepped forward to help protect Bakugo from a villain, because of his acts, he is given a gift by the world’s greatest hero, All Might. Now, Midoriya attends U.A. School–a school that cultivates the next generation of superheroes.

this is literally so much fun.

OKAY. Before I get carried away, our main character Midoriya? He is such a refreshing character to watch. Like yes, he’s the classic “good guy hero protaganist” but he’s an underdog. He’s born Quirkless* in an 80% Quirk society. He wants to be a hero? Cool, but he has to work for it twice as hard as everyone else. Still, his honest-to-goodness love for people and want to help others is so inspiring. ALSO HE’S A FREAKING CINNAMON ROLL*. Although, I’m pretty sure his favorite thing to half-whisper is “All…Might…”

*quirks are superpowers, basically.
**there’s a scene where he’s younger, and this awfully mean boy falls. yet, he’s the only one who rushes to try to help him up and see if he’s okay. MY HEART.

Speaking of which, the quirks are SO COOL and unique!! I mean, yes, you have some basic abilities like the guy with fire manipulation BUT it’s interesting how each character sort of reflects their own Quirk in a way. And there are some that are super interesting to watch play out, such as a girl who can manipulate gravity but only for a short time until it runs out.

me realizing that this takes place in a school involving superpowers

I hesitate to compare anime to live-action adaptations, but this DID give me tons of Marvel vibes. You know, kind of like if the main character was the personality of Peter Parker and went to school with others training to become heroes and also looked up to his mentor.

In general, it feels like we’ve barely dipped the surface of this show. There’s so much to learn, and so much potential for growth with each character. I can’t wait to see how the relationships develop! Also, this was definitely plot set-up. Don’t get me wrong, this was set-up I was happily watching. But I’m excited to see where the anime progresses from here!

So that’s it! Tell me: have you seen this at all? Do you like it? Have you heard of this?
