Mid-Year Book Freak-Out Tag! // more like the three-quarter year tag because i’m THAT late

Hi friends! Look, I’m so ridiculously late to doing this it’s not even funny. But I had a TERRIBLE reading slump which means that I haven’t even read thirty books yet this year. So I’m super sorry if there are any repeats, I’m a total failure as a bookworm😅 I was tagged by the lovely Blogger Books, so thank you so much for tagging me!

1: Best Book You’ve Read So Far In 2019?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

That is my only main thoughts on this book. I could have put this as best sequel or something but honestly, this is the best book I’ve read this year. The plot twists had me screaming hysterically, and the romance is just so angsty and entertaining. I also read it in two days which is pretty good for me so if nothing else read it for that!

2: Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far In 2019?

I was torn between this book and The Wicked King for best book of the year, however TWK just slightly edged out Archenemies. But despite that, Archenemies is still SO GOOD. Adrian and Nova just tear my heart into two. I mean, fluff! Angst! More fluff! My actual weaknesses. And I never realized how emotionally attached I am to this series*. A solid sequel!

*yes that is a bad thing, considering the trilogy ends this year and I’m not ready

3: New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To?

I picked two as always cuz I’m hopeless. During my Great Reading Slump of the first half of the year, I literally fell so far out of the book world I’m still making my way back. Which means that (a) I haven’t read this HIGHLY anticipated debut and (b) I BETRAYED NIKOLAI LANTSOV. This needs to be rectified immediately.

4: Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half Of The Year?

Annnnnd I’m cheating again. It’s fine. Anyways, Supernova is the last book in the Renegade trilogy and I’M NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE. But I need to know how everyone’s stories end*. As for The Queen of Nothing, it’s also a finale and I swear if Cardan and Jude don’t get themselves together I will scream.

*by which i mean if my ship gets together

5: Biggest Disappointment?

Don’t get me wrong, I really liked this one! But it wasn’t quite what I wanted it to be, either. The plot was not as intriguing as I was expecting, and the writing didn’t have the lush, rich feel that I wanted. So it’s kind of my fault for getting my expectations so skewed but this was a bit of a disappointment.

6: Biggest Surprise?

I’m going to be brutally honest: I thought this was going to be some half-baked almost middle-grade Twilight-esque book. I don’t know why, because the cover is GORGEOUS. But out of nowhere there was just so much fashion! And female friendship! And warm, fuzzy, fanciful feels! I’m so happy I read this.

7: Favorite New Author (new to you or debut)?

I really loved this book! It was surprisingly political, with a few well-done twists. Joan has such a unique voice that you can hear come across really clear in the writing. She’s also a super sweet, passionate person who also happens to have really good music taste so go read her book and follow her on Instagram! I’m always laughing at how relatable her Insta stories are!

8: Newest Fictional Crush?

I don’t really have a real answer for this question, so I’m going to go with Adrian Everhart! Technically, I first liked him when I read Renegades in 2017 but I just read the sequel Archenemies so we’re counting him today! Adrian stole my heart with his sweetness and thoughtfulness. Believe me, I adore sassy, dark love interests but why can’t we have adorable pure ones? Who are all kinds of sweet? THIS IS UNFAIR.

9: Newest Favorite Fictional Character?

Marian was an amazing female character. She had strong morals, didn’t bow to any man, and would do anything for what she believed in. Yet she also cried and grieved and it was refreshing to see such a realistic female character in a fantasy novel! Also her character development was perfection.

10: A Book That Made You Cry?

SHHHH GIVE ME THIS SMALL MOMENT OF FANGIRLNESS. The only other book I’ve cried to this year is A Monster Calls which was a reread okay. I cried a few times reading this, especially considering there’s trigger warnings for very nearly everything you can think of so be careful. If I vlogged myself reading this, you can bet there would be nothing but tears, screaming, me throwing my phone across the room, and more tears.

11: A Book That Made You Happy?

This was so cute!! And slightly problematic. But Norman was such an adorable artistic hippie human, and just made me smile. There were some feel-good moments scattered in that made me grin like an idiot!

12: Favorite Book-To-Movie Adaptation You’ve Seen This Year?

I have no answer because I genuinely have just failed this year.

13: Favorite Post You’ve Written This Year?

I really enjoyed writing this discussion post! Everyone had such unique perspectives on the topic, and I loved discussing all the pros and cons!

14: Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought Or Received This Year?

BASK IN THE BEAUTY.

That was a little forceful, I’m sorry. I get far too passionate.

15: What Books Do You Need To Read By The End Of The Year?

A lot of books but these three are especially going to be guilt-tripping me if I don’t pick them up!

16: Favorite Book Community Member?

I love everyone in this community! There are honestly too many amazing people to even begin to make a comprehensive list but I want to start shouting more people out in my posts because y’all are actual angels. Recently, I’ve loved talking to Sophie, Emma, Ruqs, and of course Blogger Books! But I honestly love all of you to pieces and I want to give more credit!!

I know that this is ridiculously late and everyone has probably done this by now, but if you haven’t please consider yourself tagged!

I’M SO SORRY I’M SOOO LATE and I’ve kind of just fell off the bookish community for a minute but yeah, I’m going to try and stay back but school is round the corner so I guess I gotta make the most of it! I 100000%%% agree with you on The Wicked King like HONESTLY, my review on it was absolutely unintelligible. It was just screaming. and same, I haven’t read King of Scars yet and I feel like I have betrayed Nikolai too and my love for the Six of Crows world
