Every year, I tell myself I’m going to read 100 books but set the official Goodreads goal to 50. And every year, I never read 100 but I always reach 50. IT’S A CHRISTMAS ALMOST MIRACLE!!!
books
Strike the Zither by Joan He | Strike the Zither was a fun political fantasy that was also a retelling of the Chinese tale of The Three Kingdoms. It follows a girl named Zephyr who is the strategist for a warlordess who is also an underdog*. This was a lot of fun, and an easy read! Also, Joan is great at twists, especially halfway through her books! I gave this 4/5 stars.
*for some reason Grammarly does not recognize warlordess as a real word and I’m having serious doubts about its abilities as a grammar checker
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn | Since Bloodmarked came out in November, and it’s been almost TWO FULL YEARS(???) since I’ve read Legendborn, I decided to give it a reread! And it’s still such a solid debut. Like, yeah, there’s some info dumping and a couple of unnecessary scenes. However, I truly struggle to name a debut that’s so creative, so powerful, and so magical while still being a great read. This is still a 4.5/5 star read!

Monday’s Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson | I have been speechless ever since finishing this audiobook. We follow a girl named Claudia who seems to be the only one worried about her friend Monday who seemingly can’t be reached. This story hurts. It is definitely raw and vulnerable and will leave you breathless. It has a good twist and decent suspense, but the thriller elements definitely come second to the social commentary and character arcs. It’s been weeks and I’m still unsure of how to rate this book. It’s somehow one of the best books I’ve read all year and a book I can’t imagine giving more than 4 stars…so…maybe by the time I write my review I’ll be 65% closer to figuring it out?

The Tunnel To Summer Vol. 1 | I think that this is a manga that’s adapted from a Japanese light novel? Which…I didn’t realize this until after I read it. And it makes more sense now that this particular volume is full of info dumping! Because it’s being adapted from a novel*! Anyways, this follows a guy who finds a tunnel that will give e you anything you want…with a price. And the new transfer student helps him figure out just what exactly is going on. I’m giving this 3/5 stars!
*someone take the exclamation point AWAY from me i need excitement rehab
So that’s it! I didn’t do a ton of blog hopping in November and the posts I did read and love I didn’t save! I don’t know why! Just know that if I commented on your post last month, I would have shared it here if I’d had the brain cells. And if I didn’t comment on your post last month, well, drop it in the comments so I can! Anyways, what’s your favorite book you read this month?

Strike the Zither sounds really good and I’m looking forward to reading more Joan He! I also still have Legendborn to read but I’m glad to hear that it held up well in your re-read! Also, send me to excitement rehab too cos I use the exclamation mark way too much, lol. 😂 I hope you have an amazing December, Kaya!

I swear I feel like I blinked and the year was almost over! I haven’t really read that much because I’ve been in kind of a slump but I’d say my last favorite book I read was The Beach Trap (yeah I read a summery book in basically winter lol). It’s been so long since I’ve read Legendborn and I kind of want to reread it again before jumping into Bloodmarked!
