Most Anticipated October Book Releases!!

IT’S SPOOKY SEASON AHHH.

And with the arrival of spooky season comes 20,000 interesting new releases! I’m drowning over here! School, you gotta let me have October off to read all the books!

october releases I’ve already read/am reading

Little Eve by Catriona Ward | Little Eve was a very strange, gothic, cult gem of a book. It’s absolutely horrifying, and yet it’s told in such a folklore, legend sort of way it doesn’t feel scary. It’s also a translated novel, so if you’re looking for a good translated book to pick up this October I’d recommend this! It comes out October 11.

The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake | Ah yes…this sequel. This sequel that I shall not talk about because the ONE thing I wanted from it it did not give but other than that it was quite good. I don’t know man, I love seeing people of color in academia settings. Anyways, y’all aren’t ready for this (or maybe you are and I’m the one who’s not ready). This comes out October 25th!

Night of the Raven, Dawn of the Dove by Rati Mehrota | WHY AREN’T MORE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS?!?! It’s a standalone fantasy featuring monsters from Indian folklore, kingdoms based around medieval India, a shocking plot, and a level of brutality that is reminiscent of An Ember in the Ashes. This was such a refreshing YA fantasy because there was actual political intrigue! And high stakes! And a main character who had flaws! And a romance that didn’t take away from the actual plot! This comes out October 18th* by the way.

*yeah this isn’t in chronological order at all I’m so sorry💀

releases i am excited for!!

Prince of Song and Sea by Linsey Miller | There will be no day when I don’t add Disney books to my TBR. It follows Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid*. This apparently kickstart a series talking about Disney tales from the prince’s perspective? Which…I’m not sure if that’s necessary but it’s Disney so bring it**! This comes out October 4th!

*also!!!! did everyone else see the new little mermaid trailer!!! halle bailey is going to BRING it and make so many people finally feel seen🥰
**

If You Could See The Sun by Ann Liang | A Chinese-American girl who turns invisible one day at her boarding school? And then she leverages that invisibility by selling her classmates secrets? This has been on my TBR for forever! If You Could See The Sun comes out October 11th!

Road of the Lost by Nafiza Azad | LOOK AT THIS COVER. HOLY CRAP. Anyways, this follows a girl in Faeland who thought she was a brownie but she’s not a brownie! So she must go ona quest to find out who she really is! I want this now! This releases October 18th!

The Whispering Dark by Kelly Andrew | WHY HAVEN’T I HEARD OF THIS UNTIL RECENTLY. This follows a Deaf girl who is invited to a school where the students are taught to traverse parallel worlds?! Why does Booktok wanna hype up Sarah J. Maas 54.0 and never actual original works written by minorities?! This comes out October 18th!

Strike the Zither by Joan He | This cover too why😭😭 They’re all so beautiful! Anyways, this is a Chinese-inspired fantasy with found family, that’s also a retelling of the Three Kingdoms! This is a political intrigue story and I cannot wait to dive into it. This comes out on October 25th!

diverse releases to put on your radar: a ghostly island survival story inspired by East-Asian folklore and a horror novel dealing with racism and mysterious disappearances!

So that’s it! Tell me: what book are YOU most excited to read in October?
