Most Anticipated July Book Releases!!

HOW IS IT ALREADY JULY??? I feel like I just did my most anticipated releases of June post. Anyways, in an effort to procrastinate my Statistics homework, let’s talk about something infinitely more appealing: books!

july releases I’ve already read/am reading

Wake the Bones by Elizabeth Kilcoyne | I read this in May and I’m STILL not sure whether or not I liked it. Oh well. This is a very summery horror-thriller-romance mashup that’s spooky, weird, and incredibly original. We follow Laurel Early, who is bonded to bones. She can sense them, and read the stories of whom the bones once belonged to. Unfortunately, one hot summer day, something unearthly wakes up on her farm, and it’ll take more than bone magic to defeat it. This comes out July 12th!

Long Story Short by Serena Kaylor | Did you say “math nerd goes to Shakespeare theater camp and ends up making a bet with the hot lead of the summer play”? Contemporaries this year are hitting it out of the park based on vibes alone, and Long Story Short is no exception. The author is also South-Asian! I gave this 4/5 stars (maybe 4.5…there’s a reason these reviews aren’t out yet*) and it comes out July 26th!

*it’s partially bc i can’t figure out my feelings on these books but also bc i am a bad reviewer

Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen | GOOD GOSH. This book feels like an original YA fairytale and I am OBSESSED. I don’t know what genre this is but I could live off of it. Basically, this follows a morally gray seer named Violet who is forced to decide between saving herself or the cursed prince who she hates (but also might have feelings for) while a kingdom’s fate hangs in the balance. That’s a terrible description but I really enjoyed this story full of courtly deceptions, lies, romance, and curses. I’m thinking this is 4/5 stars? This is OwnVoices for the East-Asian rep! Also, this comes out July 26th as well!

Beasts of Ruin by Ayana Gray | This is a sequel so all I’m going to say is that this follows Koffi and Ekon after the events of the previous book. I just started this one so I have little-to-no thoughts on it besides that I uh…really kinda maybe don’t remember the first. Oops. The author is Black, and this world is chock-full of African mythology! I have high hopes for this book though! This comes out (you guessed it) on July 26th!

releases i am moderately hyped for!!

Long Live The Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw | I’m gonna be real: I’ve probably experienced the world of The Nightmare Before Christmas more while playing Kingdom Hearts than normally, well you know, watching the actual movie. But the one time I actually saw the movie, I really enjoyed Sally and Jack’s dynamic so I’m pretty interested in this novel featuring Sally written by Shea Ernshaw! This comes out July 12th!

The Book of Gothel by Mary McMyne | It’s wildly possible that I might just be in a fairytale mood but oh well. This is a story about the witch from Rapunzel, who seeks refuge in a legendary tower in a place only known in stories: Gothel. That’s all I know but that’s all I need to know. This comes out July 26th*!

*july 12/26th and books name a better duo

diverse releases to put on your radar: a south-asian YA fantasy and an Asian-American coming-of-age contemporary!

So that’s it! Tell me: what book are YOU most excited to read in July?
