WWW Wednesday! // small town horror, a classic retelling, and dark academia!

It’s Wednesday guys! And on Wednesdays, we wear pink (and occasionally do WWW Wednesday but that’s different). WWW Wednesday is hosted by Taking on a World of Words.

what are you currently reading?

I’m honestly obsessed with so many of Wednesday Books’s releases, and I’m excited for the opportunity to read Wake The Bones early. So far, I have no idea what’s going on! Yay me! From what I can tell, this follows a girl named Laurel Early who has a strange ability to discern the exact manner of death from bones. For example, if a mouse dies by getting eaten by a fox, Laurel is able to “relive” it in a sense. I believe that this is ramping up to be some kind of supernatural, small-town horror book so I really want to continue!

what did you recently read?

GUYS. I’m so torn on this one! I have been anticipating reading this Three Musketeers retelling featuring a disabled heroine for the longest, and it didn’t live up to my expectations unfortunately. On the one hand, I loved the themes of sisterhood and overcoming obstacles while not folding to the expectations of those around you. On the other hand, the “mystery” plot was so boring. I guessed the plot twist halfway through the book! Oh well, you win some and you lose some. I’ll discuss more in my review!

what will you read next?

Surprisingly, I managed to pick this up from the library and I’m tentatively excited to read it? I’m so unsure if this is going to be good or not. When it first came out, I saw a lot of disappointed reviews but ever since then, Ninth House has gained some sort of cult following. Speaking of cults, I think that this follows a magical one in Yale? Or something like that? Look, all I know is that this is dark academia and Leigh Bardugo’s adult debut so obviously it’s been on my tbr for a while.

So that’s it! What are you currently reading?
