Ooh, I like this topic. I’m picky about favorite authors (usually I like to read several books from them) but I definitely have several contenders this year! Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads.

Axie Oh is a strong contender for becoming one of my official favorite authors. The fact that she published a sci-fi book, then wrote an incredible contemporary book, and is coming out with a fantasy book next year…well, that says a lot about her talent! While I hesitate to call her a favorite since I’ve only read one book by her, she is certainly one of the authors with the most potential.

I’ve been blessed to get both of Allison Saft’s books as ARCs, so I technically read Down Comes The Night last year (although it came out this year) and I’ve already read A Far Wilder Magic. She has truly cemented herself as one of my favorite authors. I love how she doesn’t rely on action to fill up page-time but instead focuses on writing some of the best characters and relationships I’ve ever read. I can’t wait to see what she releases next!

Tracy Deonn is another sharp contender for the “a new favorite author of the year” award. Legendborn is unique, fun, and one of the best debuts I’ve ever read. If Bloodmarked manages to reach the same highs as this one…well, there will be no stopping her.

It wasn’t until I read These Deadly Games that made me realize just how much I enjoy Diana Urban’s books. Even though I gave her debut 3.5 stars, she has a really unique way of writing captivating thrillers that are well-plotted.

Just because I didn’t give either of Hafsah Faizal’s books 5 stars doesn’t mean she’s not a new favorite! She has beautiful writing, great banter, and incredible worldbuilding. Her new series especially sounds incredible!
So that’s it! What’s one of your favorite new authors of the year?

I did not realise Axie Oh had covered so many genres… wow, the power. I really need to hurry up and read some!! Yesss,, I so agree about Hafsah Faizal… I didn’t rate the books 5* but she is an excellent writer and the banter feels like the most natural banter I have read in a YA fantasy in ages. Great post 💕
