Tag Tuesday: Top 5 Books I Wish Had TV Adaptations! // a dream is a wish your heart makes

Hi friends! In the wake of the Shadow and Bone TV adaptation, I think it’s an absolutely brilliant idea to talk about other books that should be adapted as a Top 5 Tuesday topic! Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads.

Okay, I know that this is technically in the works for being adapted to a TV series but there’s been no information on it yet*. That makes me terribly sad, because The Raven Cycle has such potential for a weird, Stranger Things-esque adapation. I wanna see the Gangsey! I wanna see Noah being thrown out of a window! I want a lot of things but- most importantly- I want talking Latin trees!

*this is also largely irrelevant but dang, for being my least favorite installment in a series, Blue Lily, Lily Blue has a gorgeous cover

This is a trilogy that would work so well as TV series. It could have all the political intrigue, without sacrificing any of the romance and schemes and character backstories. Kinda like Game of Thrones*. It could even be expanded upon if Holly Black releases more books or short stories in this world, since I feel like there’s even more that could be explored.

*idk actually i’ve never seen it

I’d be perfectly happy with this series being adapted in a more loose manner. I think that there should for sure be Audrey Rose and Thomas, but there’s so much freedom in the idea of two characters being around famous people and infamous crimes! So while a TV series could adapt these books, they could also take it one step further and add more crimes or even jump to another period in history with their ancestors. Heck, I’d love to see a modern take featuring all the stuff that went down in the Summer of ’69. Anyways, that’s my two-cents!

Oh come on, this should be an easy adaptation. With the success of period dramas like Bridgerton and reality tv, specifically The Bachelor, The Selection trilogy should be at the top of adaptation lists! Think about it: girl gets stuck in competition to marry prince, girl is in love with childhood friends, CHAOS ENSUES. Sure, it’s more of a trashy series. But isn’t that what we all turn to reality tv for?

I’m too lazy to insert the entire series here but I mean, these are such short, magical books! The format of these books would work perfectly for a couple of episodes per novel. Also, I feel like we could just spend so much more time in these worlds and with these characters than if it were a movie. I’m already so invested in these hypothetical aesthetics help-

Sure, this is already becoming a TV series. But I need to put it here because I don’t just want a TV adaptation, I want a truly incredible reflection of the childhood magic and nostalgia of the original Percy Jackson series. I want the classic one-liners. Someone already screwed up by messing up the Percy Jackson movies and losing out on the legend Dylan O’Brien himself so I’m hoping this goes…better.

That’s it! Share with me a book you want to be adapted!

  1. I would love to see The Raven Cycle and the Wayward Children series as TV shows! The Folk of the Air would be awesome too, but would need a big budget to not look too hokey.

Thanks for sharing. These are great picks! 🌸

  2. Ahhhh!! OK, so the only thing I know about TRC series is that Maggie has been writing the script for it, so surely it will be close to the books!! She was sharing photos on insta a while ago about this, but I haven’t seen anything new in ages.
And have you read the other Holly Black fae stories?? They’re all set in the same world as The Cruel Prince, so you could totally expand on that world as there are heaps of character crossovers!!
