october 2020 wrap-up!! // spooky reads and good music

Hi friends! I’m excited to be able to say that despite a small, rather unplanned two week hiatus, I did actually manage to read! In fact, I even mood-read for Halloween! Mostly at the beach though. I read two books within four days which basically means I need to move to the beach permanently. Anyways!! Let’s talk! And happy Halloween for everyone who enjoys candy and spooky things hehe!

books

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager | This was my first Sager book, and it was pretty good. Surprisingly, considering the cover is so ominous, this wasn’t really very creepy at all. I was relatively intrigued until the end, which I did find a bit disappointing. But overall, not a bad beach read at all! 3.5/5 stars.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides | This was a ride. Although I 10/10 was not a fan of the how the female characters were portrayed, I enjoyed the psychological aspects of this book. I’ll go into much more detail in my review but the plot twist wasn’t bad at all. 4.25/5 stars.

Everybody Always by Bob Goff | Bob Goff is an absolute legend. Every single chapter was a true story from his life, often wildly unimaginable to my little brain. However, what truly stuck out to me is how in every story of every person he met, Goff learned a new lesson about God’s love and showing it to others. I absolutely adored this, and I might actually get a physical copy haha. 5/5 stars!

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia | I read this for the Dragons and Tea Book Club October pick, and I really enjoyed it! I wasn’t the biggest fan of the general direction of the story and the twists, but I loved Noemi, the atmosphere, and (surprisingly) the romance! And of course, the OwnVoices rep was amazing to read from. 4/5 stars.

Poisoned by Jennifer Donnelly | I am so extremely thankful to the publisher for an ARC of this, because this was such a good fairy-tale retelling. Donnelly always has the most creative spins on fairy tales and this Snow White one was no exception. I enjoyed this one immensely! 4/5 stars.

music

Positions by Ariana Grande, A Tori Kelly Christmas, always by keshi, and Blue Hour by TXT all released this month as far as albums/EP’s go. I already posted my thoughts on positions* but let me know if you want me to talk about any of the rest!

*which was mostly just me freaking out. off the table and pov still have me in my feels though.

misc.

I FINISHED IT AND IT WAS SO GOOD I CRIED. Literally, a 10/10 k-drama. Possibly the most frustrating thing I’ve ever watched but still so, so good. One Fine Day was also really good, and surprisingly the first George Clooney movie. Also, Genshin Impact has been a game I’ve really been enjoying as well.

So that’s it! Tell me your October highlights!!

  1. Everyone needs a break sometimes! If I hadn’t been pre-scheduled so much I would have taken an accidental hiatus myself the last week and a half or so…haha. Glad to see you had a pretty good month! Hope November has been good so far!
