Tag Tuesday: Top 5 Popular Books I HAVEN’T Read Yet! // behold…my failure

Hi friends! I’m super hyped for this topic, because HELLO. If there’s anything I’m good at, it’s NOT reading the books I should read*! Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm.

*in retrospect maybe i shouldn’t sound so excited. that’s not a good thing.

One of the most popular fantasy books of possibly all-time, and definitely one of the most beloved. SO, naturally, I haven’t even checked it out from the library with the intention of reading it*. It’s so long…but I’ve heard amazing things. This apparently follows this guy named Kvothe, and he tells his story. That is the sum of my knowledge. I want to go in as blind as possible!

*that’s always a good start for me. by the fifth checkout, i’ll probably pick it up.

Let’s take a hard turn and talk about Michelle Obama’s memoir for a sec. On Overdrive, the wait for the audiobook was six months long at one point. For comparison, we aren’t even six months into 2020 yet even though it feels like two decades. Anyways, I’m really excited to read this! I’ve heard amazing things, and while memoirs aren’t usually my vibe, glowing reviews have made this impossible to resist.

oops.

I actually want to reread the Throne of Glass series at some point and finish it out, because right now I’m so conflicted on those books? They each deserve an actual review from New Reader Me. And until that happens, I’m not going near ACOTAR. So yeah!

I freaking loved If We Were Villains, which is also of the dark academia niche. I know little about this one, except that it basically founded the dark academia thing. And it’s beloved. GOSH I WISH THE LIBRARY WERE OPEN RIGHT NOW*.

*not that it would help. i guarantee i’ll march in, find the book, stare at those 559 pages, and decide to battle another day.

Last but certainly not least, The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson are impossibly adored. Everyone who reads this series falls in love with it. Technically, I’ve read the Mistborn trilogy by this author, so I’m well-aware of the sheer brilliance of his plotting. But these are so LONG. And I’ve come to realize that I don’t really read a ton of epic fantasy? Like, I read fantasy but not HIGH fantasy. And not adult. Which is something I want to remedy, so I can finally read this beloved behomoth!

That’s it! Hopefully, I surprised you by some of my choices! I tend to talk about nearly the same books sometimes, so I tried to be a little more diverse today. Tell me: what’s a popular book YOU haven’t read yet? Have you read any of these?

  1. I want to read The Secret History now. I didn’t think I knew the book until now but turns out it’s been on my Goodreads TBR for 2 years (oops). I would definitely pick up any book like If We Were Villains!
And I love the ACOTAR series and the Throne of Glass series so, so much!! I hope you get to read both of them soon!

  2. Ohhhh I also really want to read Becoming! I actually have it at home, it was a Christmas gift from two years ago and I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet… especially because you want to read it but have to wait because of the long list!!

  3. Im seriously hoping to reread and finish TOG sometime too!! Although I may end up starting ACOTAR first (because I adore the fae) or even the authors newest book. I don’t know. I want to read them all! 😂 Oh and waitlists for libraries can be awful. I ordered Red, White & Royal Blue back in October and it was only finally in transit when the libraries shut. And some ebooks have over 300 days to wait (which is made worse by the five book limit. How can you request only five books when you’re waiting almost a year for them??)

      1. Thank you ❤️❤️ and to be fair I do have more than enough books to keep me busy anyway 😅 it’s just a bit frustrating at times if I see one I’m excited for.
