Best Bookish Relationships // romantic, platonic, and familial

Hi friends! I have one big thing to say:

I’m 100% single, so Valentine’s Day is more Galentine’s Day than anything hehe.

Anyways, today I wanted to share my favorite relationships in books. Romantic, platonic, and familial, because they’re all so important!

First, I want to highlight Shadowhunters. In particular, the love triangle in The Infernal Devices and the family dynamic in The Dark Artifices. Tessa, Will, and Jem are a platonic/romantic mess and I cannot with the depth of their love for each other. As for The Blackthorn family, they are hilarious and so, so loyal to each other. I love it.

Despite so many elements of this trilogy being hit-or-miss, I think one of the most universally loved is the sibling relationship between Scarlett and Tella. They both have such undying loyalty to each other, and no boy could ever get in the way. It’s something really refreshing to read about in YA.

okay but how could i not talk about jude and cardan.

Their relationship is honest-to-goodness my heart and soul. Chemistry? Off the charts. Every moment is teeming with tension, and I literally can’t even get through a paragraph without squealing.

The DeLainey family is actual goals. Waffles, with a bunch of random people on Sunday mornings? My forever mood. I love how every sibling relies on each other but also has such good banter. It’s the perfect mix of heartwarming and hilarious.

one of the greatest squads to ever exist in all of literature.

Ronan and Gansey and Blue and Adam and Noah. Each with their own personalities, and flaws and desires*. But their friend group? Amazing. Spectacular. Their dynamic as a friend group is almost better than any of the romantic relationships in this series. In my opinion!

*except for noah. i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again: noah was done DIRTY.

I want to end with a series very near and dear to my heart, and highlight both the romantic and platonic relationships. Cinder and Thorne’s friendship makes my day. And the female friendships between Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Winter, and Kiko are absolutely everything. And obviously every romantic relationship is PERFECTION. Cresswell forever.

That’s it! I honestly could have written more, but these are some of the ones I hold dear to my heart. Tell me: what are some relationships YOU adore? Whether in literature, film, or real life? Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! Tell your partner, or friend, or sibling or parent I love you!

  1. JURDAN ❤ CRESSWELL ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

I really loved Cinder and Thorne's friendship too – it was the best kind of teasing and banter while they actually really care for each other underneath! Also Aiko was the best!! Ah! The Lunar Chronicles are so good….

Tella and Scarlett are awesome too!! Though what bothers me is that Tella did emotionally manipulate Scarlett in the first book…I know it was for Scarlett's sake but…I think after what they went through, they'd never do that to each other again.

    1. YES!

Oh my gosh I totally agree, their relationship are friend goals haha.

You’re so right, I totally forgot about that part! Tella was NOT the kindest she could be to Scarlett, in Caraval at least. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re having the loveliest of reading!🥰💜

  2. Oh god, we could not agree more! First of all: happy valentine’s (for me also Galentine’s) day! And OMG Shadowhunters has THE best love stories and also one of the only love triangles I liked… And the Cinder and The Raven Boys squad is soooo awesome, imagine being part of that fun group (I mean I love my friends but that would be amazing)
I hope you have a great day and happy reading!

  3. Happy Galentine’s Day! I’m right there with you – gotta celebrate all the platonic and familial relationships as well as the romantic ones! I completely agree that the squad in The Raven Cycle is UNBEATABLE, and I loved all the relationships in the Lunar Chronicles! ❤

  4. Omg yes I totally agree that the Shadowhunters book have some intense relationships in them of all different kinds. I absolutely adore the Blackthorn family so, so much. And there’s always so much chemistry in Cassandra Clare’s pairings. I can’t wait to re-read her books and finally read her latest offerings too. I think they’re going to be spectacular! And yes Jude & Cardan!!! I love them so much. I’ve actually read most of these which makes a wonderful change :L I need to check out C. G. Drews books and definitely hope to read The Raven Cycle this year but I’ve read the others and agree that they all have fantastic relationships. I so want to re-read TLC this year if I get time to. And finish Caraval!! (How have I only read book one so far?)
