January 2020 Wrap-Up! // songs and stories and cinema, oh my!

Hi friends! January was a tough month. A lot of awful stuff happened, and is still happening. But I want to focus on the positive for now! Here are my movie and music highlights, as well as a full-wrap of reading!

Books

Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly | I’ve been listening to this since August*. This is a really unique retelling about Cinderella’s stepsister Isabelle, complete with a battle of wits between Fate and Chance who are both betting on the girl’s life. I really enjoyed this one, actually! There were a lot of good messages, and it was an all-around excellent retelling. 4/5 stars!

*i know, i know. my audiobook incompetence is well-known around these parts.

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll | This is such a well-known classic. I feel like so many people have been exposed to this story in their life. As for me, I fell totally in love with the familiar, eccentric cast of characters and strange brand of nonsense that is strangely reasonable. 4.5/5 stars!

Favorite Father Brown Stories by G.K. Chesterton | I read this for school and um…yeah. Basically about this strange little cleric priest man who solves mysteries. That weren’t all that interesting in the first place. I would have much rather read a Christie novel. Basically 2.5/5 stars.

music

BTS IS BACK.

You know, just in case you’re not on Twitter where something related to them trends virtually every day. Interlude Shadow is dark and amazing and Suga is incredible.

apparently i’m not okay??? because this has been on repeat???

I DIDN’T EVEN REALLY GROW UP ON HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. I didn’t watch it for the first time until I was twelve. But the soundtrack to the first two movies has been blasting all month. What is happening.

Billie is so cool. Like, she’s nowhere near a favorite artist of mine, but I enjoy some of her songs and admire her as a person. I’ve really been liking everything i wanted though!!

ARIANA MY QUEEN.

Her Grammy’s dress? Gorgeous. She was totally robbed though. Anyways, I’ve been listening to Ariana’s live album k bye for now too much. literally, the entire thing could play three times a day. I regret not seeing her live.

my apologies in advance but y’all are going to be seeing much bts content over the next few weeks.

Anyways, Black Swan is a piece of art. Lyrically, musically, visually. The classical version combined with the powerful emotion of modern dance makes me shiver, and the normal audio is so cool. As I’m writing this, the Corden show will be happening in a few hours where they’ll perform it for the first time and I’m screaming?! I already know that it’ll be absolutely brilliant.

movies

  1. Little Women
  2. Knives Out
  3. IT Chapter 2

My top three movies of the month, ladies and gents! Little Women was a masterpiece. Knives Out was so unique and hilarious. IT Chapter 2? Also hilarious but almost made me cry.

my favorite movie of the month!!

So that’s it! Tell me a highlight from your January, whether it be life, movies, books, music, or whatever!

  1. I watched Little Women with my mom and absolutely loved it with all my heart. It was such a fantastic film, and I loved the changes to the timeline, and especially how we saw a lot of Amy. I hope your February is fantastic!

  3. Omg I already mentioned Little Women in your other post but I loved Knives Out as well. I went to see it half expecting not to enjoy it but it was fantastic!! My most recent movie is Bombshell which I also really enjoyed.

      1. It was about something that happened at a news network and based on a true story. I hadn’t heard about it but it was a bit like the ‘Me Too’ thing in the film industry.

      1. Yes, there’s going to be a sequel! 💕 I don’t think it’s known yet if it’s going to feature the same family/characters or just Daniel Craigs detective doing a new case or the same actors playing new characters?? but i’m super DUPER excited nevertheless!!
