Naughty or Nice: The Book Edition! // essentially save one, drop one

Hi friends! Today, I’m going to be randomizing my Goodreads books, choosing the top two, and comparing them. Some will go on the Naughty list (AKA the list of books that will be thrown off onto the icebergs for the polar bears and penguins) and the Nice list (AKA the list of books that shall be accepted by the elves and Santa). Let’s do this!

And Merry Christmas Eve/Merry Christmas To Everyone! I hope you’re having the loveliest of holidays!

Graceling vs. Paper Valentine!

I um, don’t actually remember Paper Valentine. Like, at all. I remember vividly disliking Graceling and I gave it two stars. Apparently, I gave Paper Valentine 2.5 stars, and that .5 must make all the difference. So in conclusion, Graceling is polar bear food and Paper Valentine is bearly* accepted by the elves,

*that was some edgar allen poe level wordplay right there

Turtles All The Way Down vs. The Giver!

At least I remember these ones lol. I definitely appreciate TATWD for the OwnVoices OCD and anxiety rep but I personally just didn’t enjoy it very much. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of The Giver, but I feel like that was the OG dystopian??? So The Giver it is!

The Girl From Everywhere vs. Peter Nimble!

I actually haven’t really discussed my thoughts on The Girl From Everywhere on my blog, because I read it two years ago, but here’s my (awful) Goodreads review of it if you’re curious. Anyways, Peter Nimble is much more magical and heartwarming! While there’s no mention of Christmas, I kinda get the Christmas vibe from it, so onto the Nice list it goes!

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child Vs. The Eye of Minds!

YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. We don’t talk about the trashfire of a mess that was that particular bit of published fanfiction. I don’t really remember much about The Eye of Minds besides thinking that the idea of such realistic VR was super cool. So Eye of Minds wins the Nice list!

Heir of Fire Vs. With The Fire On High!

we went from not-so-great to kinda-highkey-good. I don’t know how or why this happened. I’m actually considering rereading the Throne of Glass series at some point, because I read them at a time in my life when I didn’t quite realize all the problems they had. SO my memories of this book are actually fond. But I’ll have to give the honor of the Nice list to With The Fire On High for fantastic OwnVoices representation, family, a dash of romance, and culinary greatness.

Descendant of The Crane Vs. Twilight!

LOL.

This is going to be tough, because on the one hand we have a relatively well-plotted Chinese-inspired OwnVoices fantasy, brimming with complex politics and rich worldbuilding. On the other, we have a werewolf who takes his shirt off, a sparkly vampire, and a shockingly stupid girl. Yeah….it’s real tough to choose.

So that’s it! Tell me: which of these books would you put on the Naughty or Nice list? Feel free to do this yourself!

  1. Ooh this looks like fun! I’ll have to try it out next year. I remember liking Graceling although it wasn’t my favourite of the three. I’m not really sure which was as I remember loving parts of both of the last two.
