TBR Lows and Highs #1

Hi friends! I wanted to do a new meme today, because it sounds like such a fun and unique idea!!

Rules:

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation of why you removed it
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

The Lows

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh | I wasn’t exactly sold on this one back when I added it but hey, I’d heard good things! But now, I honestly don’t feel like reading this at all? Like if I were to read one of her books it would probably be Flame in the Mist. So au revoir Wrath and Dawn!

Forest of A Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao| I’m always up for a great retelling but I heard this was boring? I’M SORRY BUT I CAN’T WASTE TIME ON BORING BOOKS. SO BOOK BYEEE

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken | Well I heard this was boring too. But also, I haven’t even finished the Darkest Minds series yet and I really want to pick up Prosper Redding? I don’t really see myself going near this duology for at least a couple of years so yeah.

Everless by Sara Holland | YES to time being a currency but sadly…this seems to be another YA predictably cliche fantasy? I honestly doubt I’ll ever read this unfortunately.

Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale | I didn’t even know this existed…

The Highs

30-Second Psychology | I first heard about this from Emma @ emmmabooks and it sounds really interesting! I don’t like heavy, thick books* but 30 second tidbits sound great!

*unless they’re to hit someone over the head

Orange by Ichigo Takano | This graphic novel was recommended to me, and it’s basically a sci-fi romance? Apparently there are letters sent from the main character’s future self predicting certain events which sounds AMAZING.

The Confectioner’s Guild by Claire Luana | Two words: MAGIC. FOOD.

The Girl King by Mimi Yu | Asian inspired fantasy is getting such great hype right now and I am LIVING for it!!

Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes | I’m actually still not sure what the heck this book is about but I mean, the title sounds amazing? LET’S GO WITH THAT.

This was such a fun meme to do!! If you guys want me to, I’ll probably end up doing this biweekly. Tell me, have you heard of any of these? Catch ya later, au revoir!

  1. I read The Wrath and the Dawn when I first joined Bookstagram and it was okay. I have a copy of Forest of a Thousand Lanterns on my ereader because it was on sale a few months ago, but haven’t had a desire to pick it up. I love this post and will try this in the future.

  2. I read A Forest of A Thousand Lanterns about a year ago and I was so disappointed by it. The premise sounds amazing, but it was so slow and so boring in places which was such a shame.
