Hi friends! I’m so excited to be participating in another Top 5 Tuesday hosted by the fantastic blogger Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm, so go check her blog out!! Today’s topic is one that is slowly tearing my indecisive self from the inside: my top 5 fantasy books. Which hurts because I CAN’T EVEN FIT THE ENTIRE HARRY POTTER SERIES IN*. But I’ve set some guidelines so my heart doesn’t give out from stress so here they are:
-
I can only choose my favorites from this year
-
NO ASDFGHJKL SHADOWHUNTERS
-
Everyone reading this is required to send me a package of chocolate chip cookie dough (no…this is not optional)
*How can I choose between them? More Sirius? Less Dobby? I REFUSE
What. A. Book. I’m not going to lie, I was pretty much “meh this is why I don’t read hype” at the beginning but then Jude got less “KNIGHT ME O KING SIRE” and Cardan just waltzed around drunk and fabulous. Then I had to face the truth: this is one of thebest fantasies of 2018.
I was a bit wary going into this one because (a) mixed reviews are scary and (b) Caraval was amazing. Also (c) there is such a thing as second-book syndrome. But Legendary surprised me in the best ways possible! Stephanie’s writing is gorgeous, her world lush, and don’t even get me started on the plot.
To mix it up, I added the best middle-grade I’ve read so far this year! Peter Nimble is a great thief, and to be honest I’d be beyond entertained watching him use his magical eyes with the help of Sir Toad to steal from Kaz Brekker. Just sayin. And I’m so excited for Jonathan’s upcoming book!!
Vikings, guys, Vikings and a slow burn romance, and a real female main character. Is it any surprise I love this book?
Sabaa knows how to torture her readers like few others. But let’s be honest, it makes those moments filled with joy just that much more enjoyable. I don’t sob that hard okay.
So those are my picks for the week! What are some of your favorite fantasy books? Do you like high fantasy or urban fantasy better? Catch ya later, au revoir!
Bwahaha chocolate chips cookies incoming! Seriously I still need to write my post but going with some rules may be needed as I have tons of rec! Love the Cruel Prince 😍

I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to read Sky in the Deep or not, but I’ve seen enough positive reviews that I might have to check it out of the library sometime!

I know how you feel! I’d really highly recommend it but don’t feel pressured at all 🙂

Fantastic choices! I LOVED The Sky In The Deep and it makes me sad that it has so many mixed reviews. It wasn’t what I was expecting from the synopsis, but it was still so amazing!
By the way, your chocolate chip cookie dough is in the mail. I am, however, not responsible if it first gets eaten by postal workers along the way 🙂

Thank you! And oh my gosh, yes! I think the synopsis is slightly misleading, but it’s still a great book.
LOL thank you…and I won’t hold you responsible, only those postal workers XD

I would totally give you the chocolate chip cookies except for the unfortunate fact that I might have already eaten them… 😅😅 do forgive me (I understand if you can’t). And I’m so glad The Cruel Prince hit your list! And I still need to read Legendary… and Sky in the Deep… and A Reaper at the Gates… *deep sigh*

HOW DARETH YOU EAT THE COOKIES. I may have to get my revenge someday…don’t be shocked if you find all of your brownies missing one day! *evil laugh*
Lol yes! Haha I know exactly how you feel. Too many books, too little time.

I’ve been wanting to read Sky in the Deep for the longest time but I can’t get hold of it in the UK which frustrates me so much 😩 I will get my hands on it eventually though haha!

Oh no! I’m so sorry, that’s terrible. Have you checked Book Depository?

It’s been out of stock every time I’ve looked ☹ I’m going to wait until the paperback is released and hopefully have more luck with that haha!

Hi Kaya! Um, would a few emoji cookies be a good substitute? 🍪🍪🍪
Anyways, I loved your picks for this TTT! You definitely made me add a few more books to my TBR 😋 I’ve heard of Holly Black’s books being amazing, but I’ve never read one of her books. Do you think The Cruel Prince will be a good book to start with of hers? And Sky in the Deep sounds really interesting as well — I’m such a softie for slowburn romances, and I’ve never read a book solely based on Viking mythology, so I’m excited to see how I like it. Great post, Kaya!

Lol they’d be an excellent substitute!!
Thank you so much, I hope you find a new favorite 😀
I haven’t read any of her other books but I really liked the one I read of hers. I did hear that there are some connections to The Darkest Part of the Forest, so you could start there if you wanted?
Oh, same!! That’s part of what drew me to Sky in the Deep in the first place!
