Top 5 Books I Read This Summer!

Hi friends! How was your summer? I hope it went great!! In NO PARTICULAR ORDER (but really Clockwork Princess holds that crown high and proud) I shall be naming my top five books of summer! And yes summer is contemporary time but not for me apparently. Because I think I’m too addicted to fantasy at this point, no going back now.

Side Note: In order to avoid this becoming yet another Shadowhunter post, I’ve only included one of those books. But Clockwork Prince and City of Lost Souls are totally on this list too*!

*This is slightly off-topic but I can’t remember if I included Legendary in my Spring Favorites?? Because Legendary is utterly fantastic and it deserves to be on this list.

My Review

Hey, remember how I said that Clockwork Princess was holding the much-envied title for KAYA’S TOP BOOK OF SUMMER??? And how I could hear you questioning why the heck that is? Well, fellow book warriors, it’s because I was emotionally destroyed and for some strange reason my warped brain thinks that’s good. No wonder I’m a troubled child.

My Review

ALL I KNOW IS PAIN PAIN PAIN NO MATTER WHAT, GOT EMBERS ON MY MIND and this song is cheesy I give up. *ahem* anyways…there was some great character development in this book and while I will admit to be disappointed by several things, I think this was a worthy threequel*.

autocorrect that is most definitely a word…YOU ARE A WORD AUTOCORRECT YOU DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE ANY-

My (Mini) Review

I’m still trying to figure out why I loved this book even though it had several of my least favorite things in it??? Maybe the heat got to me more than I thought. But I somehow ended up giving it five stars and am very satisfied with having read it!

My Review

Yay for short illustrated books involving philosophical whales and Moby Dick references!! Seriously, if I could only pick one author to write that concept it would totally be Patrick Ness. That man can write weirdness.

My Review

Turns out I did read a contemporary and loved it too!! I hype books up way too much but to be fair, as a fantasy person, finding and loving a contemporary is like walking barefoot on a planet of slime that;s actually cookie dough. New and possibly improved

So that’s it! Tell me what some of your favorite reads of summer are! Catch ya soon, au revoir!

  1. Awesome post! I realllyyyy need to publish my Clockwork Princess review soon. ITS COMING I SWEAR *hides face* and I love that song! Good one! 😉 I really liked An Ember in the Ashes and I rated it 5/5 stars but I really didn’t like the prominence of rape in the story. Are there any graphic scenes or does it happen to any of the main characters? Does anything go into any detail? If so, I might read it. And how does the romance go? Does it become heavier and more graphic or does it remain the same as the first book? Otherwise, I might read it… also The Wicked Deep has been on my TBR for an eternity!!

    1. Thank you! Lol I have been EAGERLY awaiting your review…but I suppose I can wait a little longer🤣🤣 and yes!

I’m happy you enjoyed Ember!! I definitely agree with you about that, I felt that it was important to setting up the world but it was a little *too* much. It’s been a bit since I read Torch but I don’t think there’s as much of it in there. And there’s nothing really detailed! I believe there is one scene in Reaper that is very uncomfortable but it didn’t go further.

Lol! If I had a penny for every time I’ve said that😂

      1. You’re welcome! Aww that means so much to me, Kaya ❤️ Lool apologise 😂

I really loved it but that was the only thing holding me back! Ahh ok. Oh alright, I think I can skip that then, if there’s only one scene. And there has been the hugest hype for this series so I’m excited to see how it turns out. AND I’m reading Ash Princess and I was pleasantly surprised!!

And thank you for letting me know, I’ll but the torch on my TBR now 🙂

      2. You’re good! I’m happy to help. Have you heard of Common Sense Media? Sometimes I check their website to see how bad the content is on some of the most popular books. Ooh!! I haven’t managed to read that one yet, I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying it!!

        You’re welcome 🙂

      3. Yes, I have! I used to use it quite often except it didn’t have a lot of the books I wanted to check out, so I kind of just moved towards the Q&A section on Goodreads. Thank you, hopefully I finish it today!! 🙂

    1. Thank you! They are excellent books😁
A Reaper at the Gates is the third book in the Ember quartet, and the first book is An Ember in the Ashes!! They’re basically about this girl named Laia who’s a Scholar (in this world, Scholars are oppressed) and in order to get her brother back (who was taken) she joins with the rebellion and has to infiltrate this brutal Academy for Martials. It also follows Elias, who is one of those dreaded Martials but is going to desert. I’d highly recommend it if you have time!!😁
