Tag Tuesday: Top 5 Worst Book Covers

Hi friends! Today’s Top 5 Tuesday, hosted by Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm is all about the worst book covers. I’m super excited about this because there’s just so many I can choose (I’m picky with my covers okay) so let’s do this thing!

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

Okay honestly this is horrible. Like, if you’re going to make a book with beautiful details all one color, make it a pretty one. If they just decide to change the colors, I’d be fine but no it must look like golden throw-up. Real classy. NIKOLAI DESERVES BETTERRRRR *shakes fist*

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

And I thought Vampire Academy was bad. Literally ever single cover is the same group of people staring off into space. What does that tell me about this book?!?! That I need to be more aware of my surroundings???(true enough but still)

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

What is this. Thank the Lord God Almighty for good cover changes, because dang. This cover doesn’t even begin to describe the epicness of the series, or anything really. And what would have happened if they’d dragged these covers out for the rest of the books? Another Bloodlines, that’s what.

Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman

Ah fog…wait that’s it? Like this cover would definitely not make me want to pick it up. The girl on the cover looks nothing like how she’s described in the book.

Wildcard by Marie Lu

I don’t known why but I keep thinking this book takes place under bleachers. The font, the background, the way the colors contrast…it also looks NOTHING like Warcross! I’m super disappointed.

And that’s it for today. Tell me some of the absolute worst book covers you’ve ever seen! Can’t wait to chat, au revoir!

  1. I’m sorry you don’t like the King of Scars cover! I feel like it’s very polarizing and everyone either loves or hates it. It’s actually one of my favorite covers I’ve ever seen lol! I don’t mind the Wildcard cover but am not a big fan of it either, though I actually like it better than the Warcross cover. I was told it looks so different because Warcross is supposed to symbolize the game, and Wildcard is supposed to symbolize the darkweb or whatever that she goes into! Either way, I’m so freaking ready for it to come out so I can read it!!

  2. Thank god I’m not the only one who thinks the King of Scars cover is disappointing. Leigh Bardugo usually has fantastic cover art but I think they could have done it way better. The Warcross covers are nice but they aren’t the prettiest. I am excited for the epic ness of Wildcard though! Thank god for the Throne of Glass cover changes. Thank god.

  3. I agree with every single thing you said!! The first time I saw the cover for King of Scars I was extremely disappointed. Like, part of me realizes that Nikolai is definitely extra enough to have a cover like that, but it’s just not that appealing. And the Wildcard cover is not pretty at all. I didn’t like the Warcross one either but at least it had colors!
